Game Writer

As a Game Writer at CaptureAge, you will be working as part of an integrated narrative and level design team on ambitious narrative-driven projects in the Age of Empires franchise.
This role requires exceptional writing skills, particularly the ability to write dialogue for voice performance. Your writing should be fresh, witty, and stylish, and you must be able to craft distinctive characters with a variety of voices.
You will also be able to undertake historical research and translate history into suitable storylines and characters. You will work closely with level designers to ensure that historical and narrative content is conveyed through our campaigns.
This is a 6-month contract position, with the possibility of extension based on evolving project needs.
Key responsibilities
Write high-quality dialogue and cutscenes, matching the standard of CaptureAge's prior work on the Age of Empires: Chronicles series
Write non-dialogue text (UI text, objectives, hints, etc.)
Create coherent narratives and strong characters based on historical research
Use historical research to inform game mechanics and level designs, coming up with ideas to represent history and narrative through RTS gameplay
Work closely with level designers on the integration of the narrative into gameplay; playtesting levels for narrative coherence, pacing, and UX
Requirements
Strong command of the English language (written and spoken)
Previous experience writing for interactive media and voice performance
Previous experience which demonstrates teamwork and research skills
A love of language

Fully Remote – Location / Time Zones
We are a fully remote company with team members in 20+ countries across many time zones. This position is open to team members who broadly fit within European/South American/African time zones (UTC-3 to UTC+3).
Hours/Time Management
We have a flexible approach to time-management, and we believe in giving team members the opportunity to control their own schedules. We'd like to see a world in which work can fit around your life, not the other way around! In practice this means a few pre-agreed sync points a week, with the rest of your working time entirely up to you – we do not have mandatory core hours.
